Ten mobile trends to look out for in 2010
Lists lists lists. Everyone loves a list, don’t they?
Well, here are the 10 things that mkodo expect to blow the mobile roof off in 2010 – or at least be a little gusty.
1. Continuing noise on Apps – though still with manufacturer/operator fragmentation – likely to be fuelled by Android’s Marketplace
2. Use of SMS to drive people towards discovery of apps – useful on increasingly large apps stores
3. Google handsets, they’re smart and they’re unlocked. What’s not to like?
4. The growth of the .mobi site as a means of cross-platform reach with single cost
5. In-app micro-billing will become a regular feature in many types of content
6. Media groups will ramp up attempts to find and exploit viable long-term payment channels – mobile is likely to be key
7. Using mobile as a money transfer mechanism (in emerging markets) will expand significantly
8. Mobile advertising will continue to grow dramatically, outstripping all other ad-channel growth
9. Roll-out of smartphones and all-you-can-eat data tariffs will place significant burden on 3G network – people will start talking again about WiMax and LTE
10. Augmented Reality will be more of a noise but will not achieve any mass-market use (maybe 2011)
